Difficulties in teaching and parenting

In recent years, it seems to me that children have less respect for adults and more expectations of things that they are entitled to. I don't remember this from my childhood, but I understand that the 1980s were a long time ago. However, as a teacher for over 20 years, I have seen the change in children. There are more parents who believe their child, no matter how young, over a teacher or authority figure that is bringing an incident to their attention.

I have a very unique view on this as I have two children, born 18 years apart. My oldest had a lot more respect and less expectations for getting things. Some of that may have been due to the fact that there was not always children's television available day and night. My youngest seems to inherently know this, and since there is always children's television available on apps, she tells us that she should always be entertained. I am trying to figure out how to get back to the values we had before there was so much instant gratification.
